What should a fire door inspection report include?
Short answer: A good fire door inspection report gives every door a unique reference and location, records the result for each component with photographs, grades defects by urgency, recommends repair or replacement and prices each remedial item separately.
- Unique reference per door
- Photo of every defect
- Result per component
- Each remedial priced separately

What should every fire door report include?
- Door reference and location so each door can be found again.
- Door type and evidence such as rating, labels or plugs, and whether it is single or double.
- Component results for leaf, frame, gaps, seals, hinges, closer, latch, glazing, hardware and signage.
- Gap readings at each edge and the threshold.
- Photographs of each door and every defect.
- Defect grading by urgency.
- Recommendation: no action, repair, upgrade or replace.
- Remedial pricing per item.
Why does a unique door reference matter?
Because the same door needs to be checked again and again. Without consistent references, nobody can tell whether a fault has been fixed or whether door 12 this year is the same as door 12 last year. Tagging solves this.
What format should the report come in?
A PDF for the building's records and a spreadsheet for planning and importing into compliance systems. Photos should be linked to the door they belong to.
What is a red flag in a fire door report?
No photos, no gap readings, vague comments such as "general wear", or a single lump-sum repair price without a breakdown. Those make it hard to check the findings or compare quotations.

How long does a fire door inspection take?
Typically 10 to 20 minutes per door, depending on access and how many defects need photographing. A block with 40 communal doors is usually a single day on site.
Do you need to remove the doors?
No. Inspections are non-intrusive. The inspector measures, operates and photographs each door in place and only lifts away removable items such as letter-plate covers where it is safe to do so.
Where is the tag fitted?
Usually on the top edge or hinge edge of the leaf, where it can be read without affecting the door's seals or performance.
Can I keep using my own door numbers?
Yes. We can adopt your existing references or map them to new tags.
