Fire Door Glazing
Fire Door Glazing: Fire door glazing is the fire-resisting glass, beads and glazing seals in a glazed fire door or vision panel. The whole glazing system, not just the glass, must match what the door was tested with.
A cracked vision panel, missing beads or ordinary float glass in a fire door all create a direct route for fire and heat. We replace the glass, beads and glazing seals as a matched system, and record the glass markings so the next inspection can verify them.

What's included?
- Replacement of cracked or non-fire-rated glass
- Fire-rated beads and fixings matched to the door
- Intumescent glazing seals or tapes as specified
- New vision panels cut into suitable doors within their evidence
- Glass markings photographed and recorded
- Integrity or insulated glass to suit the door's rating and location
When do you need a fire door glazing repair?
- A vision panel is cracked, missing or replaced with plain glass
- Glazing beads are loose, missing or the wrong type
- A door needs a vision panel added for visibility
- An inspection could not confirm the glass is fire-rated
What do we check or do on each door?
| Glass | Fire-rated glass with identifiable markings. |
|---|---|
| Beads | Correct bead profile and fixings, all present and secure. |
| Seals | Glazing seals continuous and suited to the glass. |
| Aperture | Size and position within the door's evidence. |
How does it work?
Identify
We record the aperture, bead type and any glass markings.
Specify
A glazing system is matched to the door's rating and evidence.
Glaze
Glass, seals and beads are fitted as a system.
Record
Markings and photos are logged for the next inspection.
How much do fire door glazing repairs cost?
Per vision panel supplied and fitted; larger panels and insulating glass cost more. Guide range £220–£520 per panel, ex VAT. We confirm a fixed price once we know the building, door count and access. See all guide prices.
Which standards and law apply?
- BS 8214:2026
- BS EN 1634-1
- BS EN 13501-2
- BS 6262-4 (safety glazing: human impact)
Regulation 10 applies in England only. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own fire safety law; see regulation 10 explained.
Fire Door Glazing: questions
How can I tell if fire door glass is fire-rated?
Fire-rated glass is usually etched or labelled with the product name and standard in a corner. Wired glass may be fire-rated but not all is. If there is no mark, the inspection records the glass as unverified.
Can I add a vision panel to an existing fire door?
Only if the door's evidence allows a panel of that size and position, and it is fitted with a matched glazing system.
What is the difference between integrity and insulation glass?
Integrity glass stops flames and smoke but allows heat through. Insulating glass also limits heat transfer, which matters where people or materials are close to the door.
Can I reuse the existing beads?
Only if they are the correct fire-rated type, undamaged and suit the new glass. Often they are replaced as part of the system.
