Common questions in Chester

Do you work in occupied buildings in Chester?

Yes. Inspections and repairs in Chester can be carried out in occupied flats, schools, care homes and workplaces, with doors kept closable at all times.

How many hinges does a fire door need?

Most single-leaf fire doors use three hinges; taller or heavier leaves may need four. The door's test evidence specifies the number and type.

Can I fit any lock to a fire door?

No. The lock must be suitable for fire doors and fitted within the size limits of the door's evidence, often with intumescent protection around the mortice.

Does regulation 10 apply to buildings in Chester?

Yes, if the building is a multi-occupied residential building with storeys over 11 metres. Chester is in England, so the quarterly communal door checks and annual flat entrance door checks apply to those buildings.
