Fire doors for offices & commercial buildings
Stair cores, risers and fit-out doors checked, and contractor alterations put right.
Offices go through fit-out after fit-out, and fire doors suffer: access control added without evidence, new partitions with doors that are not rated, riser doors left open by contractors. Facilities teams need a clear register and someone to put the alterations right.
What do offices & commercial buildings typically need?
- Stair core and riser door inspections
- Access control and hardware alterations checked
- Fit-out door evidence and installation records
- Fire stopping around frames after services work

Questions we're asked
How long does a fire door inspection take?
Typically 10 to 20 minutes per door, depending on access and how many defects need photographing. A block with 40 communal doors is usually a single day on site.
Do you need to remove the doors?
No. Inspections are non-intrusive. The inspector measures, operates and photographs each door in place and only lifts away removable items such as letter-plate covers where it is safe to do so.
How many hinges does a fire door need?
Most single-leaf fire doors use three hinges; taller or heavier leaves may need four. The door's test evidence specifies the number and type.
Can I fit any lock to a fire door?
No. The lock must be suitable for fire doors and fitted within the size limits of the door's evidence, often with intumescent protection around the mortice.
