Fire doors for care homes & healthcare
Fire doors that protect residents who cannot evacuate quickly, inspected without disrupting care.
Care homes, hospitals and supported living often rely on progressive horizontal evacuation, moving people behind fire doors rather than out of the building. That makes every corridor and bedroom fire door critical, and every closer has to work for residents who may be frail.
What do care homes & healthcare typically need?
- Bedroom doors on free-swing or hold-open devices
- Closers set for low opening force
- Inspections planned around care routines
- Fast repair of impact damage from beds and trolleys

Questions we're asked
How long does a fire door inspection take?
Typically 10 to 20 minutes per door, depending on access and how many defects need photographing. A block with 40 communal doors is usually a single day on site.
Do you need to remove the doors?
No. Inspections are non-intrusive. The inspector measures, operates and photographs each door in place and only lifts away removable items such as letter-plate covers where it is safe to do so.
Is it legal to wedge a fire door open?
Wedging a fire door open defeats it, because it cannot close in a fire, and it can breach fire safety law. If a door needs to stay open, use a device that releases it automatically when the alarm activates.
Do acoustic hold-open devices work with any alarm?
They listen for the alarm sounder, so the sounder must be loud enough at the door. We check the sound level and the alarm type before recommending one.
