Fire Door Hold-Open Devices in Paignton

Whether it is a block of flats, a school or a care home in Paignton, our fire door hold-open devices follow the same door-by-door method and report format.

A fire door hold-open device keeps a fire door open in normal use and releases it to close automatically when the fire alarm activates. Free-swing closers let the door move freely like an ordinary door, then close it on alarm. We use the same method for buildings in Paignton.

Paignton FAQs

Does regulation 10 apply to buildings in Paignton?

Yes, if the building is a multi-occupied residential building with storeys over 11 metres. Paignton is in England, so the quarterly communal door checks and annual flat entrance door checks apply to those buildings.

How quickly can you inspect fire doors in Paignton?

It depends on the number of doors and access. Tell us what you need and we will give you the earliest date when you call, and confirm it in writing.

Can hold-open devices be used on flat entrance doors?

Generally not on flat entrance doors in residential blocks. They are mainly used on corridor and cross-corridor doors in other buildings, subject to the fire risk assessment.

Is it legal to wedge a fire door open?

Wedging a fire door open defeats it, because it cannot close in a fire, and it can breach fire safety law. If a door needs to stay open, use a device that releases it automatically when the alarm activates.
