Questions from Washington clients

What gap is allowed around a fire door?

Most guidance and manufacturers' evidence expect gaps of about 2 to 4 mm at the head and edges, with 3 mm as a practical target. The door's own certification or test evidence takes precedence if it states a different figure.

Can you price remedial work in Washington from another company's report?

Yes. Send the report and we will price each line for your building in Washington, or revisit specific doors if the report lacks detail.

Does regulation 10 apply to buildings in Washington?

Yes, if the building is a multi-occupied residential building with storeys over 11 metres. Washington is in England, so the quarterly communal door checks and annual flat entrance door checks apply to those buildings.

Can you fix a big gap with a thicker intumescent strip?

Not as a general rule. Seals are tested for a particular gap; using oversized seals to hide a poor fit is not a reliable repair.
