Fire Door Gap Adjustment in Doncaster: questions

What gap is allowed around a fire door?

Most guidance and manufacturers' evidence expect gaps of about 2 to 4 mm at the head and edges, with 3 mm as a practical target. The door's own certification or test evidence takes precedence if it states a different figure.

Does regulation 10 apply to buildings in Doncaster?

Yes, if the building is a multi-occupied residential building with storeys over 11 metres. Doncaster is in England, so the quarterly communal door checks and annual flat entrance door checks apply to those buildings.

Can you fix a big gap with a thicker intumescent strip?

Not as a general rule. Seals are tested for a particular gap; using oversized seals to hide a poor fit is not a reliable repair.

Do you work in occupied buildings in Doncaster?

Yes. Inspections and repairs in Doncaster can be carried out in occupied flats, schools, care homes and workplaces, with doors kept closable at all times.
